IPL 2025 Retention: The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) mega auction will change the entire landscape of the competition. As per reports, BCCI officials will meet with the team owners of all ten franchises later this month to discuss the number of retentions and other rules for the mega auction.
Some teams want the number of retentions to be as high as eight, while others want the number of retentions to be as low as zero. Assuming BCCI allows only one player to be retained in IPL 2025 retention, here are our predictions for the possible names each team may retain.
Name | Team |
Jasprit Bumrah | Mumbai Indians |
Sanju Samson | Rajasthan Royals |
Nicholas Pooran | Lucknow Super Giants |
Virat Kohli | Royal Challengers Bengaluru |
Shubman Gill | Gujarat Titans |
Shreyas Iyer | Kolkata Knight Riders |
Axar Patel | Delhi Capitals |
Pat Cummins | Sunrisers Hyderabad |
Arshdeep Singh | Punjab Kings |
Ruturaj Gaikwad | Chennai Super Kings |
IPL Retention rules
According to the IPL retention rules, each franchise has the prerogative to retain its entire squad and make no changes to it before a mini auction.
However, before a mega auction, teams were allowed to retain a maximum of four players. The rules also prohibit retaining more than three Indian players or two overseas players. The retention of uncapped players is also capped at two.
As stated above, a meeting of all IPL franchises is scheduled for the end of July. It remains to be seen whether BCCI will tweak some of the IPL retention rules or not.
