While the IPL 2025 retention rules are yet to be out, there is a lot of speculation and conjecture about the same. Similar is the case with what players will be brought in by teams. Now, as per a report in RevSportz, ex-CSK recruit and best Test bowler R Ashwin might return to the team and could don the yellows again.
Many had predicted the move when Ashwin was made the in-charge of CSK High Performance Centre in June, by now the talks about the same have only intensified. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan had said then, “Ashwin is one of the greats of India and Tamil Nadu and his presence will be a big boost to the high performance centre and our academies.”
Of course, it is subject to whether Ashwin is released by his current team, RR. For the record, he has a good record with CSK, having played 97 matches from 2009-2015, and picking up 90 wickets. Most importantly, he had an excellent strike-rate of 6.46.
After Ashwin, CSK Eye Mohammed Shami
If that is not enough, recovering from injury, Mohammed Shami is also on CSK radar. Once, in 2019, CSK had bid for him, but lost to PBKS then. Now this could be the time for them to go all guns for the Indian pacer. But as is the case with Ashwin, it remains to be seen whether GT would be keen on releasing such a key member of the unit.
