MS Dhoni’s still got it! CSK captain chases down 167-run target vs LSG, makes Ekana crowd go crazy

With Shivam Dube struggling, MS Dhoni took charge of the run chase. Scoring 26 (11) when CSK needed 56 runs from 5 overs to win.

MS Dhoni has still got it! It seems like being named Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has brought out the best in him. Facing the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Ground in what was the 30th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Dhoni turned back the clock.

MS Dhoni, the ‘chase-master’, at it again

Having pushed himself down to number nine twice in the last six matches, this time Dhoni decided to walk out in the middle with 5 overs to go. CSK had 5 wickets in hand and still needed 56 runs to win their second victory of the IPL 2025 season.

In yesteryears, this would have been the perfect chase for Dhoni. But with his team struggling, the wicketkeeper wasn’t able to save him. This time, he took control of the match. Writing the team’s destiny on his own.

Shivam Dube, who was on the other end, was struggling. He didn’t even have a 100 strike rate when Dhoni arrived, 17 (20). And Dube kept on struggling until the 18th over. In the next 10 balls, he added just 9 runs. But by now Dhoni had scored 20 (8).

The match was in CSK’s control now. They needed 24 runs in 2 overs now. The 19th over turned out to be a trainwreck one for LSG as Shardul Thakur erred. He bowled an above-waist no ball, and Ravi Bishnoi dropped Dhoni as well. The 43-year-old wasn’t the one to hit the winning shot, but it was him who got CSK the win.
