IPL 2025: MS Dhoni IPL record, which may not be broken ever

In IPL 2025, MS Dhoni (43 years old) can also become the oldest player to score a half-century. Currently, the record is held by Adam Gilchrist.

The anticipation for the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is palpable among fans, who are eager to witness new milestones and record-breaking performances. However, some records, particularly those held by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni, seem nearly insurmountable.

MS Dhoni has been the cornerstone of CSK for over a decade, leading the team to multiple championships. Although former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma has matched Dhoni in terms of the number of IPL trophies won as captain (five), no one has come close to Dhoni’s remarkable winning percentage as a captain.

MS Dhoni’s unbreakable IPL record

Dhoni has led CSK in 226 matches, securing 133 victories and facing 91 defeats—a record unmatched in IPL history.

Among IPL captains, Rohit Sharma is the closest competitor to Dhoni but still trails significantly. Rohit has captained MI in 158 matches, winning 87 games. The disparity between the two legends underscores why Dhoni’s captaincy record is unlikely to be broken in the near future. With CSK retaining MS Dhoni for Rs 4 crore, the iconic skipper will once again take to the field in IPL 2025.

Dhoni set to return in IPL 2025

Dhoni’s preparations for the upcoming season are already underway. Over the years, he has amassed 5243 runs in 264 matches, boasting a strike rate of 137.54 and an average of 39.13, including 24 half-centuries.

In IPL 2025, the 43-year-old can also become the oldest player to score a half-century. Australia’s Adam Gilchrist scored an unbeaten 85 at the age of 41 in 2013. MS Dhoni needs just 19 runs to surpass Suresh Raina’s tally of 4,687 runs and become the highest run-scorer for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
