The IPL retention list is out, and so are many surprises, with no Rishabh Pant, no Shreyas Iyer, and even no KL Rahul, as all have been released by the franchises and will go into the upcoming mega auction, indicating how big the mega auction is going to be. When the IPL retention rules were announced, it was made clear to the franchises that they would get six retentions this time, which came as a huge boost to the camps. The uncapped player rule was also announced. Most importantly, one thing that came as a boon to many is that this time, there are no restrictions on the RTM cards.
That’s correct, in the past, there was a certain limitation on using the RTM card. Last time, during the 2017 mega auction, only three RTM cards were allowed, but this time, six in total. It all comes down to the number of RTMs a team will have available, depending on how many players they retained before the auction. Since many teams retained three players before the auction, they will have three RTM cards available. Many franchises have capitalised well on this policy. See which teams have how many RTMs left, and most importantly, which teams have zero RTMs left going into the IPL mega auction.
How many RTM cards are available for each IPL team?
Team | RTMs Left |
Chennai Super Kings | 1 |
Mumbai Indians | 1 (Only Uncapped) |
Kolkata Knight Riders | 0 |
Rajasthan Royals | 0 |
Sunrisers Hyderabad | 1 (Only Uncapped) |
Gujarat Titans | 1 |
Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 3 |
Delhi Capitals | 2 |
Punjab Kings | 4 |
Lucknow Super Giants | 1 |
Teams with zero RTM cards
Looking at the picture, the inaugural IPL winners, Rajasthan Royals, and the current IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, have retained all six players and, therefore, do not have any RTM cards left.
From Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sandeep Sharma are back. For the KKR side, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Harshit Rana, and Ramandeep Singh are also in the mix again, having used all six retentions.
