IPL 2025 Mega Auction: BCCI set to allow separate provision for retention of uncapped player

IPL 2025 Mega Auction: BCCI likely to form new rules for multiple retention of uncapped players for each team in separate slot for IPL Auction

July 31 is an important day for the Indian Premier League. Major decisions for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction is set to be decided as the BCCI is set to meet with the IPL owners. While main decision are set to be take on the Right to Match (RTM) and the number of retained players, the apex body can allow the IPL franchise teams to retain uncapped players.

Every three years, the IPL mega auctions are held where teams retain only their key players while the remainder are released in the Auction pool. But with the rise in number of uncapped players, Indian Premier League teams are unwilling to part ways with them. After their rigorous development, IPL franchise teams are unwilling to part with them. As a result, the BCCI might be tempted to allow teams to retain these uncapped players.

BCCI likely to allow special retention provision for Uncapped Players

“Every franchise could be allowed to retain, say, two-three uncapped players from their squad in the 2024 IPL season under an additional slot. The franchises are likely to push for it. Almost all the franchises have developed certain uncapped players which they don’t want to lose since they have invested in them over the last two-three years,” a source told the Times of India.

IPL 2024 has seen a mammoth rise in uncapped players performing and paying huge dividends to their teams. Players like Ashutosh Sharma, Mayank Yadav, Shashank Singh and others have performed really well. This has prompted IPL teams unwilling to part ways with them.

As per reports the BCCI is willing to provide a separate slot which can allow multiple uncapped players to be retained. And as a result, all teams are likely to push for the rule in today’s meeting with the apex cricketing body of the country.
