Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran came to the rescue for LSG as the side beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets on Thursday. Rishabh Pant and co. buried the ghosts of 2024 where they were thrashed by the same opposition at the same venue. In that game, SRH had managed to chase down 164 runs in just 9.4 overs.
How Pooran, Marsh helped Pant fulfill promise
Ahead of the game, LSG captain Pant had vowed to chase down whatever target that SRH sets. He had said that his team had the batting line-up that was capable of chasing any total. And LSG did just that, thanks to Pooran’s 70 and Marsh’s 52.
“We have the batting to chase it down. We gonna chase whatever they score, doesn’t matter,” Pant had said at the toss.
Tasked with chasing 191, LSG lost Aiden Markram early, but Pooran and Marsh added 116 in 7.1 overs to seal the deal for the team. Both men struck their second consecutive fifties of the season and their partnership was the highlight of the win.
Cummins removed Pooran and Marsh to keep SRH interested, but that partnership put LSG far ahead. Even Pant’s dismissal did not make the visitors nervous, and they romped home with 5 wickets and 23 balls to spare.
In the 1st innings, SRH finished with 190/9, with Shardul Thakur bagging four wickets. Head top-scored for the side with a 47-run knock. Middle-order contributions from Reddy, Aniket and Klaasen allowed SRH to nearly reach 200. But that total wasn’t enough to get them a win.
