IPL 2025: LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka clears air on KL Rahul incident finally, says “has always been family”

IPL 2025: Sanjiv Goenka's LSG and KL Rahul have parted ways after three years, and the latter will play for DC now.

The world remembers what had transpired between KL Rahul and LSG owner Sanjv Goenka, after the IPL 2024 match vs SRH, where the latter chased down 166 in only 9.4 overs. The skipper then, Rahul got an earful from the owner, which was caught by the cameras. And since then, there were talks of friction between the two.

No KL Rahul vs Sanjiv Goenka

There were reports that KL Rahul won’t be retained by Sanjiv Goenka’s LSG, and neither be bid for in the IPL Auction. And that is exactly what happened — the cricketer was eventually bagged by DC for INR 14 Cr. All along, Goenka was castigated for his public outburst, and even for not retaining Rahul. But now, finally, the LSG owner has come forward and cleared the air on the entire matter.

Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Goenka said that there’s nothing wrong between the two, and that he only wishes well for Rahul. “Look KL has always been a family to me, and always will be. Not only he led LSG for three years, but also performed really well. So, I can only wish well for him, no matter what. And the wish is always, ‘shareef insan ke sath acha hi ho’. He’s talented, uber talented for sure. Hopefully, his talent comes out well for Team India.”

Rahul to Play for DC in IPL 2024

Opening up further on the particular incident, he said, “There are moments when you have sentiments and there is an expression to that sentiment. But that doesn’t impact the relationship. When he was our captain, the interaction was at a different level, when he’s with another team, then it is somewhat guarded. All I can say, there is a love and respect, both.”

Meanwhile, in the match, Rahul scored 29 from 33 deliveries, as LSG could only score 165 runs in their 20 overs. On the other hand, SRH batters Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were severe against the opposition bowlers, and scored 75 and 89, respectively.
