New LSG mentor Zaheer Khan ‘all for’ impact player rule in IPL 2025 despite backlash from Kohli & Rohit

New LSG mentor Zaheer Khan ‘all for’ impact player rule in IPL 2025 despite backlash from Kohli & Rohit

The 2023 edition of the IPL had the highest ever run rate of 8.99, and the record was broken earlier in the year in the 2024 edition, which was 9.67.

Zaheer Khan is the second most successful Indian pacer of all time, but it seems like he’s not backing his own bowlers. Since the impact player rule came in the IPL 2023 season, bowlers have suffered a great deal, and the scoring rate has gone through the roof. But the newly assigned Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor is ‘all for it’.

Many, including big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have bashed it. The Mumbai Indians great felt that all-rounders were suffering because of it. The highest run scorer in IPL history claimed that the game was becoming too batter-friendly because of the impact player rule.

“There is debate regarding impact sub (player rule). Putting on record I am all for it. It has helped a lot of uncapped players get their chance. Helped players get much needed game time. There is no space for half all-rounder. If you have ability with bat and ball no one can stop you,” Zaheer Khan said at an press-conference in Kolkata.
