IPL 2025: Lockie Ferguson suffers major injury mid-over, leaves PBKS in lurch

Lockie Ferguson had a decent IPL 2025 season so far, where in four matches he picked up five wickets, at an average of 20.

In what comes as an unfortunate news for Punjab Kings, their premier fast bowler, New Zealander Lockie Ferguson suffered an injury, while bowling just his second delivery of the day in the match vs SRH. Such excruciating was the pain, that he immediately limped off the field, leaving teammate Marcus Stoinis to complete the over.

Big Blow for PBKS, Lockie Ferguson Suffers Injury

The incident happened in the last over of the powerplay, with Sunrisers Hyderabad openers — Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma going all guns blazing for the 246 run-chase, scoring 77/0 in 5.2 overs. Meanwhile, this is the second high-profile injury during IPL 2025, with another Kiwi, Glenn Phillips having been ruled out of the tournament already, due to a groin issue.

But Options Galore With Punjab

The speedster was going through a mixed season so far, where in 4 matches he had picked up five wickets, at an average of 20.60, and an economy rate of 9.36. More importantly for PBKS, he was providing much-needed support for Punjab’s main strike-bowler Arshdeep Singh.

Having said that, even if he cannot return to playing condition anytime soon, PBKS have enough bowling fire-power, and the bench-strength to replace him without much fuss. There is Marco Jansen, then Yash Thakur, and a certain Suryansh Shedge waiting in the wings to take over the baton.
