IPL 2025: Kumar Sangakkara won’t replace Gambhir at KKR, will work with Rahul Dravid for RR

Kumar Sangakkara joined Rajasthan Royals in 2021 as Director of Cricket, guiding them to IPL 2022 finals.

Kumar Sangakkara’s association with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) won’t be ending soon. The Sri Lankan legend has been with the franchise since 2021 and has built a great team under his tutelage. RR are currently forced to be reckoned with, comprising a unit full of superstars, especially from the mega auction in 2022 till IPL 2024.

Sangakkara eyes to deliver at RR with Dravid!

In a recent post shared by the social media of RR, Kumar Sangakkara mentioned that he had a significant conversation with Rahul Dravid, who recently joined the Royals as the head coach. The southpaw, who is perhaps the greatest Lankan batter ever, is looking to ‘deliver results’ alongside Dravid at RR.

Sangakkara to KKR? No!

This also means Sangakkara is not going anywhere after some reports emerged that he might be switching franchises. According to some publications, it was the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who might have locked in on Sangakkara for the role of mentor after Gautam Gambhir left for Team India duties. However, Sangakkara has put all rumours to bed.

This now makes things interesting! Fans will see Sangakkara and Dravid take charge as the Royals will have a huge task in their hands – the mega auction 2024. With Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Trent Boult, Yuzi Chahal and Riyan Parag all household RR names, Dravid and Sangakkara will work in tandem in retention plan.
