IPL 2025: KKR’s Varun Chakaravarthy shines against RR after horror night out vs RCB

Varun Chakaravarthy was subbed off in place of Angkrish Raghuvanshi as soon as his spell got over.

Varun Chakaravarthy made a welcome return to form for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their second match of IPL 2025 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati on Wednesday. The Indian mystery spinner was nearly unplayable on a sluggish pitch and capped of a fine evening with figures of 2 for 17 off 4 overs.

How Chakaravarthy decimated RR

This spell was a relief for KKR as their star bowler was taken to the cleaners by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the season opener at the Eden Gardens on March 22. On Wednesday, Varun Chakaravarthy came on to bowl with RR threatening to post an above-par score thanks to an aggressive Riyan Parag.

Chakaravarthy, a master of variations, used the pitch well to push the Royals back and he fist dismissed a dangerous looking Parag before striking again in his second over. For some reason, RR thought it was a good idea to send Wanindu Hasaranga ahead of Dhruv Jurel. Varun Chakaravarthy, however, wasn’t complaining and he pocketed his second wicket with a delivery which skidded through.

Against RCB, Chakaravarthy conceded 1 for 43 off his 4 overs on a flat surface. This came after some sterling performances in the Champions Trophy as India’s surprise pick. Since September 2024, no other bowler has taken more T20 wickets than Chakaravarthy!
