Varun Chakravarthy is reaping the rewards of the trust that has been bestowed upon him. And the biggest gainer is Kolkata Knight Riders. While the spinner dazzles for the national team, KKR will be happy knowing that they have retained one of their star players for IPL 2025.
Over the last T20I series against Bangladesh, Chakravarthy made a comeback into the India squad after a span of 3.5 years. And yesterday, he was the highlight of the show despite India’s loss to South Africa.
Starman for KKR
Kolkata Knight Riders went on to retain 6 players on IPL 2025 Retention Day. The defending champions retained their core setup, and Varun Chakravarthy is a part of it. He is joined by Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh.
KKR shocked everyone when they went on to retain the spinner for a whopping price of 12 crores. It was believed after failing to retain captain Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer would likely get the backing. However, the KKR management decided to show their trust in Chakravarthy and he continues to flourish before the mega auction.
Chakravarthy impressed everyone with a wonderful fifer. Tasked to defend a small total, the spinner kept India in the momentum with his special fifer, but eventually, it wasn’t enough. Giving away just 17 runs in 4 overs and scalping 5 wickets speaks heaps about the magic that the spinner wove at St George’s Park, Gqeberha yesterday.
