While there were many speculations around the release of KL Rahul by LSG, during IPL Retention, but as it turns out, it wasn’t the truth. There were many who felt that owner Sanjiv Goenka didn’t want to retain him, but now Rahul has come up with his version of the story.

In a video by Star Sports, Rahul went on to reveal that he wanted to explore new options, where he could play with freedom. “I wanted to start fresh, I wanted to explore my options and I wanted to go and play where I could find some freedom. Team atmosphere would be lighter, sometimes you just need to move away and find something good for yourself and I have been out of the T20 team for a while,” Rahul told Star Sports in their show Unplugged.

KL Rahul has been out of the Indian T20I team for close to two years now, and in the same interaction, he revealed his plans to make a comeback, through IPL. “I know where I stand as a player and I know what I need to do to get back. I look forward to this IPL season to give me that platform to go back and enjoy my cricket. My aim is to obviously to get back into the T20 team,” he added.
Meanwhile, many predict that Rahul would head to RCB, given the current circumstances. Apart from his being a local boy, he has already spent a considerable time with the Bengaluru franchise (2013-2016). What makes his case even stronger is, RCB retained only three players — Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal, and Rajat Patidar, and have a considerable purse left.
They don’t have a big batter in their ranks, and even need a skipper, with RCB not retaining this year’s skipper Faf du Plessis.
