Injury trouble for Delhi Capitals, vice-captain Faf du Plessis might miss RR and GT matches

Faf du Plessis has scored 81 runs (29, 50, 2) in the three matches he's played, giving quick starts to Delhi Capitals each time.

Delhi Capitals (DC) had lost Harry Brook even before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season started. But given their squad strength, they decided that they didn’t need to name a replacement. That didn’t hurt them much. But an injury to their vice-captain, Faf du Plessis, might.

Faf du Plessis aggravates his injury

The former South African captain has been in fine touch but, due to an injury, didn’t take the field against the Chennai Super Kings on April 5. He played the next match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 10, despite being hampered, and now stands at the risk of missing more matches.

Faf wasn’t named in DC’s team for the Mumbai Indians (MI) clash in Delhi, and during a pre-match interview, he revealed that the management told him to play as an impact substitute against RCB. However, Faf decided he’d field as well. This seems to have aggravated his injury, and this means that he might miss more matches.

“Unfortunately, my nature… the boys offered me the chance to play as an impact batsman in the last game, but the competitor in me wanted to field as well, and I regret that decision standing here right now. Unfortunately, today, I’m not wearing the spikes,” Faf told the broadcasters before the DC vs MI match.

DC vice-captain could miss 2 more matches

The opener hinted that he wishes to regain his fitness by the next week. This indicates that there is a chance that Faf might be unavailable for matches against Rajasthan Royals on April 16 and Gujarat Titans on April 19.

“I have been really lucky in the last 3 years. I pride myself on finishing competitions and not missing out through injury. This is new ground for me, where you are trying to be 100% fit, but you are not quite there. The competitor in you wants to get back as soon as possible but play the patient game. Hopefully, I get that right in the next week and get ready for the back end of the tournament,” he added.
