After spending quite a few fruitful years as an opener for Rajasthan Royals, superstar English batter Jos Buttler is now set to play for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. However, it will be interesting to see whether he gets an opportunity to open the innings here or not.
In the recently held press conference of Shubman Gill ahead of their clash against Punjab Kings, he did not reveal where the veteran is going to bat.
There is no question about how big Jos Buttler is in white-ball cricket, and in the IPL, he has been consistent over the years. Last year was the best example, whenever the team needed him, he stepped up and delivered for RR. It’s fair to say he was the reason why RR performed impressively well throughout the IPL 2024 season, especially in the initial phases, courtesy of Jos Buttler.

“We haven’t decided at which number he will bat, maybe we will get to know about it tomorrow during the match, but over the course of 8-9 years that he has played IPL, he has played at different numbers and he has performed. So, I don’t see that as a problem for us,” Gill said.
Gill confident in GT’s depth across departments
There were a few mistakes Gujarat Titans made in the last IPL season. From a batting perspective, they didn’t add many runs in the death overs, and while bowling, they conceded too many runs in the first six overs. As a result, Gill’s first stint as GT’s leader didn’t end well.
Highlighting all these issues ahead of IPL 2025 games, he mentioned how the team is looking to move past their poor outings and make a fresh start.
“We have covered all the bases; we have good depth in the batting, and we have some very good fast bowlers. The IPL is a tournament where everybody focuses on scoring 250, 260, 270, but it’s the bowlers who win you matches, it’s the bowlers who help you not concede that many runs,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter how many runs you score if you concede just as many. Our philosophy is to have a really strong and stable bowling side. Hopefully, we will be able to play the same bowling attack for all 14 games, but if anything happens, we have good backups as well,” Gill added.
