IPL 2025: Glenn Maxwell flops again in rare PBKS batting meltdown

Glenn Maxwell has scores of 0, 30, 1, 3 and 7 in IPL 2025 as the Australian all-rounder continues to struggle. He has averaged 6.64 with the bat in last 14 innings.

Glenn Maxell’s nightmarish IPL 2025 season continued when he was dismissed for 7 by Varun Chakravarthy in PBKS’s home match against KKR on Tuesday.

Over the last two years in the IPL, Maxwell has managed only 93 runs in 14 innings at an average of 6.64. His highest in this period – a 30 came against Rajasthan Royals in Mullanpur 10 days back.

Punjab Kings’ fierce top-order had a rare failure in their home match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tueday and it was a great opportunity for Glenn Maxwell to make a mark  – but he could not.

In the six matches before tonight, Maxwell had scores of 0, 30, 1 and 3 – he did not bat against Lucknow Super Giants in the team’s secod match of the season.

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh got off to a rapid start but Harshit Rana struck thrice inside the Powerplay to dismantle the PBKS top-order. Rana removed Arya and then picked Shreyas Iyer for a two-ball duck before dismissing Singh for 30.

It is there that Maxwell had the opportunity to impress a team where he has played previously and his last stint here was a disaster.

Maxwell and Nehal Wadhera had started to rebuild the innings but PBKS lost their way again. Wadhera fell to Anrich Nortje after striking him for two boundaries before Maxwell perished to Varun Chakravarthy – the KKR spin ace had already dismissed Josh Inglis earlier.

It was a complete meltdown of the PBKS batting line-up. Glenn Maxwell would have been the biggest disappointment for the side after they spent Rs 4.20 crore to sign him in the auction.
