IPL 2025: CSK crash to 5th consecutive defeat after horror batting show, stay 9th in points table

IPL 2025: CSK have been poor throughout the season, where batting has continued to fail for them, in every match.

Chennai Super Kings were handed their fifth successive defeat of IPL 2025 by Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk on Friday. CSK had started the IPL 2025 season with a convincing victory over Mumbai Indians but have since lost 5 matches on the trot.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated CSK for the first time since 2008; 2 days later, CSK lost to Rajasthan Royals before defeats to Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings.

MS Dhoni & CSK’s Poor Batting Show

MS Dhoni took over as captain of CSK after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of IPL 2025 with an injury but that did not do anything to correct their deep batting woes. At one stage, CSK were in danger of sub-par 100 total and only Shivam Dube’s resilience pulled them through to triple figures.

Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, the CSK openers were dismissed cheaply. Rahul Tripathi, dropped and now included as Gaikwad’s replacement, flopped again. R Aswhin was sent ahead of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni and CSK even brought in Deepak Hooda as Impact Player but no matter what they did, CSK had no answers to KKR’s bowlers. MS Dhoni at No.9 could only manage 1 as the five-time IPL champions struggled to 103 for 9.

KKR Brilliant with Bat & Ball

KKR responded brilliantly. They had the net run rate in their sights and Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock got the team off to a flier. Narine redeemed himself after dropping an easy catch – he picked 3 for 13 in 4 overs and then batted like he has so often for KKR. He was bowled by Noor Ahmad for 44 off 18 – the innings was studded with 2 fours and 5 sixes.

Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy picked 2 wickets apiece while Moeen Ali and Vaibhav Arora took 1 wicket each in a clinical performance by the visitors. KKR, the defending champions, now have 3 wins and 3 losses from 6 matches and will be eager to build on their position from hereon. CSK will need a miracle to figure out their best combination and then win a few games from here to stay in the hunt for the playoffs.
