A powerful domestic record, and currently, for many reasons, Sam Konstas is gaining attention in both India and Australia. After having a power-packed debut in Test cricket, where he took on India’s important bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the Boxing Day Test, and before that, the tons of runs he made in first-class cricket, he has made a name for himself. In just 12 FC games, he has scored 831 runs with an average of 54.49.
He also had an impressive debut for Sydney Thunder in the BBL, but after his debut vs India, where he stamped many Indian bowlers, especially in the 4th test. Many have started asking why he isn’t in IPL 2025, as he was not part of the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction held in November, which means he won’t be part of IPL 2025, but what if he had been there? Which team could have shown big interest in him? After all the thinking, there’s no question about how much Sam Konstas could have been a boon for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025. But why?
Sam Konstas could have created mayhem for bowlers with the bat if he had been in LSG!
- Powering up LSG’s top order
- Impressive BBL debut shows promise
Boost for LSG batting line-up
There is no hidden fact that LSG doesn’t have enough options to show for their opening pair. Who will open LSG’s innings in IPL 2025? Certainly, they have options on one hand. If we assume that Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh could make a good pair for LSG, but is Marsh really good? His recent performances aren’t showing any promise. Last season, he managed to get just 61 runs in 4 games. He didn’t deliver as expected, showing the concern over the dearth of openers.
Now, they certainly do have options, with players like Aiden Markram and even David Miller or Matthew Breetzke along with Pant, who can be used as a power-packed hitter, but no one is actually looking like a solid opener. This brings us to the point that Konstas could have created mayhem if he had been there for LSG in IPL 2025. There are several reasons to back this statement. Although he didn’t make many runs in the recently held series against India, what he did show was an impact, displaying intent many times.
Stellar show on BBL debut shows promise
Konstas is one of the best things to happen to Australian cricket in 2024. He certainly rose through the ranks and became one of the youngest players to debut for Australia in Test cricket. His fighting attitude, which stemmed from heated arguments with Indian stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, became the talk of the town and made him the villain in India’s eyes. However, in Australia, he emerged as a hero, especially with how well he tackled Bumrah on his debut in the 4th Test match.
He had a dream debut during the Boxing Day Test at MCG, where he took on Bumrah in his first few overs and smashed a total of 60 off 65 balls.
Before that, he also had an interesting debut in the BBL, where he played a blazing 27-ball 56 for Sydney, giving him the stage to shine. Then, he had an amazing outing against India in pink-ball practice match, where his ton stamped his name on the Australian jersey for the last two Test matches vs India, all of this shows how much he played in just a few months, and given his current form, he would have been a great addition to LSG, who certainly needs a strong batter in the top order.
