IPL 2025 Auctions: Could KKR be interested in South African all-rounder, after letting go Andre Russell?

Wiaan Mulder's 100 in BAN vs SA Test showed that he can be a great fit for teams in the IPL for the coming year.

IPL retentions would be announced in the evening on October 31, and all teams, through various reports in the media, have made clear their preferences. Fans, for their part also know, that MS Dhoni is being retained by CSK, Virat Kohli by RCB, while Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant will be part of the IPL auctions. But there are somethings that no one knows, especially when it comes to the auctions.

IPL Retentions

The step right after the IPL retention announcements will be focusing on the RTMs, and then eventually the auctions. But one player, given his stellar qualities with the bat and ball, could make it big in IPL auction. It is none other than South African Wiaan Mulder, who scored his maiden Test ton against Bangladesh.

In the match he scored 105 from 150 deliveries, to audition well for the IPL 2025. In his innings he struck four sixes and eight fours. Surprisingly, given his all-round abilities, Wiaan Mulder has never been a part of the IPL, or any franchise.

Just to talk about his overall record, in 118 T20s, he has scored 2027 runs at a strike rate of 136 and scored 12 fifties. Further, he has picked 66 wickets, at an economy of 8.18, that ticks all the boxes.

Wiaan Mulder for Andre Russell?

Those are the numbers that would tempt someone like KKR to bid for him in the auction, who are reportedly not retaining Andre Russell. Or even someone like RCB who don’t have a half decent fast-bowling all-rounder in their ranks. Having said that, whatever happens on Friday, will have a lot of bearing on the fact, as to who is bagged in the IPL Auction. But Mulder has made his presence felt for sure.
