IPL 2025 auction scenarios: Why Mumbai Indians should buy back homegrown talent Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan, who has been released by Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025 auction, is one of the players that MI should target to buy back

Much like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Khan shot to fame due to his standout performances for the Mumbai Indians (MI). The southpaw was arguably one of the best batters produced by the five-time champions. However, Ishan Kishan found no place in MI’s retention list ahead of IPL 2025 auction.

Will MI re-buy Ishan Kishan in IPL 2025 auction?

Mumbai Indians have retained five capped players, namely Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav. This leaves the team with room to retain one more uncapped player. In this case, MI only have the option to buy back Ishan Kishan at IPL 2025 auction as they won’t have any Right to Match (RTM) cards left. And rightfully so, Kishan deserves to don the MI jersey once again.

He has been consistent with the bat for MI and has managed to score over 200 runs in almost each season.

MI’s wicketkeeper woes

Ishan Kishan was bagged by MI for Rs 5.5 cr in 2018. He saw a massive boost in pay in the recent round of auction, earning Rs 15.25 cr. Apart from his ability to bat fearlessly in the middle-order, he is also agile as the keeper and can play a vital role from behind the stumps for the team. Ishan Kishan was MI’s first-choice keeper for multiple seasons.
