Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are willing to let go of their captain, Shreyas Iyer, who gave them the IPL 2024 trophy. A report has suggested that KKR has approached Suryakumar Yadav and asked him whether he wants to lead the team in the IPL 2025 season. Suryakumar has been one of the best T20 batters in the world in the last couple of years, and after being named India’s T20I captain, his stature has grown even more. Naturally, KKR wants him now even more than before.
KKR to MI: Shreyas Iyer for Suryakumar Yadav
According to RevSportz journalist Rohit Juglan, we could see a trade between KKR and the Mumbai Indians (MI) before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Right now, it all depends on Suryakumar Yadav. If he wishes to leave, we might have an initiation of trade that could result in Shreyas Iyer donning the MI jersey for the first time. However, there is a chance that Surya will remain with Mumbai, albeit in a different role.
SKY, new MI captain?
The report also suggested that MI could remove Hardik Pandya as their captain after just one season. If KKR can decide to let go of Shreyas Iyer, who won an IPL trophy mere months ago, why can’t MI sack Hardik as captain after a miserable IPL 2024 season? Mumbai have already taken a tough decision by telling Rohit Sharma to step down, and they could do the same to Hardik to entice Suryakumar Yadav to stay with the franchise as their skipper while they hunt for a record-breaking 6th IPL title.
