Legendary Australian cricketer and former Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has confirmed that the franchise is likely to retain young Australian batting talent, Jake Fraser-McGurk, ahead of the 2025 IPL auction (Indian Premier League). The 22-year-old right-handed top-order batter, who made his IPL debut in 2024, has caught the eye of Ponting with his work ethic and potential. Although Fraser-McGurk is still developing his skills, Ponting is optimistic about his future, predicting that the young cricketer could even represent Australia in Test cricket someday.

Despite Jake Fraser-McGurk’s promising IPL debut, his start in international T20 cricket has been less memorable. The young Australian made a disappointing debut in a match against Scotland, getting out for a duck. His struggles continued, with scores of 16 and 0 in subsequent matches, leading to his exclusion from the playing XI in the series opener against England.
However, Fraser-McGurk found redemption in the second T20I, making a crucial 50 off 31 balls while batting at No. 3. His performance not only helped Australia but also proved that the young batter can deliver on the big stage when given the opportunity.
