IPL 2025 Auction: DC must use RTM for David Warner, will solve their captaincy issues

IPL 2025 Auction: DC must use RTM for David Warner, will solve their captaincy issues

IPL 2025 Auction: Although David Warner wasn't at his best in IPL 2024, DC must not only consider retaining him, but also making him the captain.

During IPL Retention, DC might have made a big mistake by letting Rishabh Pant go, but now they will have a chance to undo some damage at the IPL 2025 Auction. The team is left with a purse of INR 73 Cr, and two RTMs, and one of them should surely be used to their former skipper David Warner.

After his longish stint with SRH, Warner was brought in by DC, where in the absence of Rishabh Pant, he was made the skipper. Even though this is the mega auction, the situation isn’t very different for Delhi Capitals. (A) Warner is an IPL-winning captain, and is fully aware, as to what is needed to make the team with the title. (B) He has played substantial number of matches for the team in the past, and now, to be able to lead them once again.

In 91 matches for DC, David Warner has garnered 2582 runs at an average of 31.36. To go with that, he has two tons and 22 fifties for them, and is their second-highest run-scorer ever, after Pant. Another factor is, he was, on Wednesday, appointed as the skipper for BBL franchise Sydney Thunder. So, he would be in a better position to lead DC, next year in IPL 2025.

Having played his first match for Delhi in 2009, Warner has till now led them in encounter, and tasted success five times. Even though his record as DC leader isn’t the most impressive, but his IPL records speak for himself. In 67 matches, he tasted success 35 times whiled leading SRH, and lost only 30 matches.

DC Retention List

  • Axar Patel – 16.5 Cr
  • Kuldeep Yadav – 13.25 Cr
  • Tristan Stubbs – 10 Cr
  • Abhishek Porel – 4 Cr
  • Purse Left – 76.25 Cr
