Mumbai Indians, with five-time IPL champions, have a tough job ahead figuring out which players to retain before the IPL mega auction. The Mumbai Indians camp was in a bit of turmoil during IPL 2024, with reports that the entire team wasn’t happy about their new captain, Hardik Pandya.
Even though there are reports that Rohit Sharma isn’t happy with the Mumbai Indians setup, the team will definitely do their best to convince him to stay. He’s been a huge contributor and a five-time IPL winner for them.
3 Reasons why MI might retain Rohit Sharma
IPL retention rules
As per the new proposal, BCCI might allow franchises to retain as many as 6 players from their squad. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma will be among the top priorities for MI, even if they have to shell out more money for him.
His experience
Despite having poor seasons, Rohit has shown a tendency to rise to the occasion in big games. In the final of IPL 2015, he smashed a superb half-century at a strike-rate of almost 200. Then in 2017, he made valuable contributions in Qualifier 2 and the Final, which were both low scoring affairs. Again, in the final of IPL 2020, he scored 68 crucial runs to help MI chase down a total of 157 runs. Rohit’s experience makes him stand out from any other player in MI’s camp.
Rohit Sharma’s form
Despite not having had the best of the IPL in the last edition, Rohit Sharma has been in red-hot form since the T20 World Cup. Despite taking retirement from the T20I format, Rohit has not changed his template of batting and looks to remain aggressive throughout his innings. MI will also think of not changing the deadly opening duo of Ishan Kishan and Rohit at the top.
