Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look for a crucial win when they take on Kolkata Kight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens. Faf du Plessis and co are in their special green jerseys as they eye a win in KKR vs RCB. Winning the toss, the RCB skipper chose to bowl first.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have played in their iconic green kit since 2011, typically reserving it for one of the afternoon matches at their home ground, the Chinnaswamy Stadium, during the IPL season.
RCB’s special green jersey
Ahead of this season’s opener in Chennai, RCB released their updated green kit, following their rebranding from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This tradition is part of RCB’s initiative to promote environmental awareness, emphasizing the importance of planting more trees and reducing global warming.

Given the unique tradition of wearing the green kit, RCB usually chooses an afternoon match to debut the jersey. During these green kit matches, it’s customary for the RCB captain to present a plant as a memento to the opposing team’s skipper in Bengaluru.
However, all three of their remaining home games are scheduled for nighttime, beginning at 7:30 PM IST. This might explain why RCB plans to wear the green kit for their upcoming clash at the Eden Gardens.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru struggling in IPL 2024
RCB has struggled throughout the current IPL 2024 season, sitting at the bottom of the table with just 2 points from 7 matches. To make matters worse, they conceded the highest total in IPL history when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scored 287 runs against them. Adding to their woes, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is set to miss the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) due to a hip strain. To have any hope of reaching the IPL 2024 playoffs, RCB must win all their remaining matches.
