IPL 2024: When will Rohit Sharma join five-time champions Mumbai Indians squad?

Mumbai Indians will open its campaign against Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad

Speculation has been rife regarding Rohit Sharma’s future in the Indian Premier League since his removal as the franchise’s captain. While the MI pre-camp commenced a week ago, Rohit has yet to join the team, whereas newly-appointed captain Hardik Pandya is already with the squad. Although there’s uncertainty surrounding Rohit’s arrival, reports indicate that the former MI captain will join the squad today in Mumbai.

Rohit recently led the Indian side in the five-match Test series against England. As a crucial member of the MI team, Rohit’s presence will be vital to their success this season. Most likely, he will partner with Ishan Kishan at the top of the batting order, forming a dynamic opening pair. With five titles under his leadership, Rohit holds the record for the most IPL titles by any captain.

It won’t be awkward: Hardik Pandya on Rohit Sharma

Before the IPL 2024 auction last December, the Gujarat Titans traded Pandya to MI in a cash-only deal, following which the all-rounder was also appointed as their captain.

Pandya has predominantly played under Rohit’s captaincy throughout his international and IPL career, so will it be awkward with their roles reversed?

“It won’t be any different, he will always be there to help me,” Pandya told reporters during MI’s pre-season media interaction in Mumbai on Monday. “This team’s achievements have been under him, and I just have to continue that. It won’t be awkward. He will still guide me; his support will always be there.”

Mumbai’s IPL opener against the Gujarat Titans on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad promises to be an exciting showdown, given the circumstances.
