IPL 2024: ‘What if’ Rohit Sharma was in CSK, wonders Subramaniam Badrinath

Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful captains in the IPL, having won 87 matches, out of 158 played.

The announcement of Hardik Pandya as the Mumbai Indians skipper for IPL 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma has been the talk of the town. This is something that even the ex-players can’t keep away from, let alone the fans. A day after the move, former India batsman Subramaniam Badrinath shared a picture on X, with Rohit in a CSK jersey, captioning it, “What if”.

This tweet only added fuel to fire, as the fans were even more convinced that Rohit should have stayed as the Mumbai Indians skipper. While it is not really clear why Badrinath tweeted out the photo; perhaps he just wanted to see Rohit in CSK.

Mahela Jayawardena Defends Mumbai Indians’ Decision

Former MI coach and global head of performance, Mahela Jayawardena thinks that it is just a transition. “It is part of legacy building and staying true to the MI philosophy of being future-ready. Mumbai Indians have always been blessed with exceptional leadership right from Sachin to Harbhajan and Ricky to Rohit, who while contributing to the immediate success have always had an eye on strengthening the team for the future,” he said in a statement.

“It is in keeping with this philosophy that Hardik Pandya will assume captaincy of Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024 season.”
