What does BCCI said about Shimron Hetmyer?

Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24,” BCCI said.

“Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” BCCI added.

Spark of dissent by WI star

While the BCCI refrained from elaborating on the specifics, the incident likely stemmed from Hetmyer’s disappointment with his dismissal. Facing the pressure of the Qualifier 2 chase, Hetmyer struggled against the bowling of SRH’s left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma, managing only 4 runs off 10 deliveries.

Misjudging the pace of a flat delivery, he was trapped lbw, his hopes dashed. In a moment of frustration, he attempted to hit the wickets with his bat before walking back to the pavilion.

Hetmyer’s action seals RR fate

Hetmyer’s dismissal proved pivotal in the match. Despite a valiant effort by Dhruv Jurel, Rajasthan Royals fell short of the target by 36 runs, their IPL 2024 journey coming to an end.

Spinners orchestrate SRH win

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a total of 175 runs on the board, with Heinrich Klaasen leading the charge with a blistering 50. Both teams’ bowlers shared the spoils, with Trent Boult and Avesh Khan taking three wickets each for RR.

However, in reply, it was SRH’s spinners who dominated, with Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma picking up a combined five wickets to restrict Rajasthan Royals and secure their place in the IPL 2024 final.
