IPL 2024: Second-most expensive player Pat Cummins joins Sunrisers Hyderabad camp

Cummins would look to turn the fortunes of SRH around with his captaincy in a bid to help the franchise lift its second IPL trophy.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s new captain Pat Cummins on Tuesday joined the SRH camp ahead of IPL 2024. Cummins became the second-most expensive player in IPL when he was bought by SRH for Rs 20.50 crore in the IPL 2024 Auction. He joined the team on Tuesday and is likely to take part in his first practice session today.

The captain of the World Cup 2023 winning team, Pat Cummins, rose to become the second most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Cummins, had a base price of Rs 2 crore at the IPL auction. He struck a very lucrative deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore.

After the Chennai Super Kings launched their bid for Cummins, other teams entered the race, including the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both the price and the peddle continued to soar. The likes of MI and CSK withdrew once the sum exceeded Rs 8 crore, leaving SRH and RCB in a competitive position to hire the captain of Australia.

It was SRH that succeeded in landing Cummins in the end, as SRH needed a captain to lead them. Cummins will look to take SRH to the playoffs for the first time in 3 years.
