Is KL Rahul going to step down as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)? After they were handed a 10-wicket thrashing by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, LSG’s owner, Sanjiv Goekna, was seen having an animated chat with Rahul. Goenka clearly looked unpleased and seemed to have given his skipper an earful.
KL Rahul to step down as LSG’s captain?
All this happened moments after the match came to a premature end, as Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head chased down 166 runs in just 9.4 overs. Following his public humiliation by Sanjiv Goenka, some are speculating that KL Rahul will step down as LSG’s captain with just two matches left in the IPL 2024 season.
An IPL source told PTI that no decision has been taken regarding a potential captaincy change. “There is a five-day gap before the next game against DC. As of now, no decision has been taken but it is understood that if Rahul plans to just concentrate on his batting for the remaining two games, the management won’t mind,” the anonymous source said.

Shades of MS Dhoni vs Sanjiv Goenka fiasco?
If KL Rahul is removed or steps down, it won’t be the first instance that a Sanjiv Goenka team does so. In 2017, Goenka’s Rising Pune Supergiant sacked MS Dhoni for the team’s underwhelming performance in 2016. If one of the greatest captains the cricket community has seen can be removed, KL Rahul can surely find himself at the receiving end as well.
