IPL 2024 Playoff chances worsen for Delhi Capitals, Warner & Ishant ruled out of DC vs MI match

David Warner and Ishant Sharma have participated in seven of the nine matches the Delhi Capitals have played this season.

Rishabh Pant’s hopes of making the IPL 2024 Playoffs have taken a massive hit. Despite scoring an important win against the Gujarat Titans and moving to the 6th spot on the points table, the Delhi Capitals don’t have an easy ride ahead. Their two most experienced players, David Warner and Ishant Sharma, have been ruled out of the important DC vs MI clash at their home.

Warner is the third-highest run scorer in IPL history and is one of the best T20 openers in the world. Although Jake Fraser-McGurk has taken his spot and strikes quicker than him, his consistency will be missed.

Meanwhile, Ishant, who’s had an up-and-down season so far, is also out. Rasikh Dar has replaced Ishant in the playing XI and even got a 3-fer in the last match, but the hometown hero will be difficult to replace. “David Warner is injured and not available for the next game. Ishant Sharma is also injured,” Ganguly said in the pre-match press conference.

Delhi Capitals IPL 2024 Playoffs chances

The Delhi Capitals have 4 wins (8 points) to their name from 9 matches and are currently 6th on the points table. With 5 league stage games left, Rishabh Pant and Co. would like to win all of their matches and end with 18 points. Realistically, they can win 3-4 matches and end up with 14-16 points.

No team has qualified with 14 points since 2021, the year before the two new teams were introduced. Last year, the four teams that qualified scored 20, 17, 17, and 16 points. Right now, the Delhi Capitals’ chances to make the IPL 2024 Playoffs look bleak.
