‘People don’t come to watch me smile’: Gautam Gambhir opens up on having a ‘game face’ during fun chat

Gambhir caught up for a fun chat with Indian comedian and satirist Cyrus Broacha. Glimpses of the conversation were posted by KKR on their social media handles.

Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir on Friday said even people who do not know him personally have a perception about him. In a fun chat with Cyrus Broacha, the former India opener opened up on various topics including the footballers he likes, and the game face he puts on.

Gambhir KKR’s good-luck charm

Gambhir came back to the KKR side as a mentor ahead of the 2024 season after spending two seasons with Lucknow Super Giants. Gambhir had won the IPL twice with Kolkata franchise in 2012 and 2014. Kolkata Knight Riders have been performing extremely well after Gambhir’s arrival. Shreyas Iyer’s side are 2nd in the IPL table with 4 wins in 6 matches.

Rashford better than Messi, Ronaldo?

Cyrus Broacha asked Gambhir, “Do you really feel Rashford is better than Messi and Ronaldo?”

Gambhir, instead of providing a straight answer, just said, “I really like Rashford.”

Game face on

On people’s perception regarding him, Gambhir said, “In this country if there’s one thing that is most difficult to beat, it’s perception. Someone who doesn’t even know me, they’ve got a perception about me that he is intense. Why should I not have a game face? Because people don’t come to watch me smile. People come to watch KKR win.”
