New Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya determined to play brand of cricket ‘all will be proud of’

Mumbai Indians captain talks about his feelings on coming back to the franchise where his IPL journey started from and his relationship with the coaches.

Mumbai Indians have endured a fair amount of controversies before the start of the IPL 2024 season. Be it the home coming of Hardik Pandya or the removal of Rohit Sharma from captaincy after a decade, the franchise will now look to focus on cricket as the start of the season draws near. What can the cricketing world expect from Hardik Pandya’s team in IPL 2024? A brand of cricket everyone will be proud of, according to new MI skipper Hardik Pandya.

Mumbai Indians are one of the two most successful franchises of IPL. The Mumbai-based franchise has won the IPL title five times along with Chennai Super Kings. Rohit Sharma took over the MI armband in 2013 and has overseen all five IPL titles won by the franchise. So the backlash from fans over Rohit Sharma’s removal from captaincy was expected.

But new captain Hardik Pandya is no pushover as well. Since moving to the newly-formed Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2022, Hardik Pandya led the franchise to two successive IPL finals, winning one.

Talking about how special it is to be back with the IPL franchise from where his journey started, Hardik said, “The feeling of wearing this colour is very special for me. My journey started here, and coming back home would always going to be special. Mali (Lasith Malinga) has been my brother from the start and Mark (Boucher) has been wonderful.”

Hardik also clarified the style of play MI would aim to pursue in IPL 2024.

We will make sure we play a brand of cricket that all is going to be proud of and at the same point of time its going to be a ride no one will forget,” Hardik Pandya said.
