MI ‘delighted with confidence’ that Tilak Varma exudes every time he walks to crease

MI will now look forward to continued fan support at their upcoming clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a much-needed win at the Wankhede Stadium, defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets. This victory, powered by Suryakumar Yadav’s scintillating century and crucial support from Tilak Varma, brings MI’s total wins for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season to four.

Suryakumar Yadav anchors chase

MI’s batting order faced early challenges, losing their top three batsmen quickly. However, Suryakumar Yadav steadied the innings with a magnificent 51-ball century (12 fours and 6 sixes).

His knock was phenomenal,” MI’s batting coach, Kieron Pollard, during the post-match press-conference said on SKY’s century.

“He played the situation just about perfectly when he went in. It was a tricky situation where the ball was nipping around and moving around a bit. He got beaten a few times but held his nerve, and that’s the sort of discipline we ask for.

Then he got into his work about manoeuvring the field, placing the gaps, and counter-attacking. But it’s no surprise for us; that’s how he practices and plays. And when he scores, and he scores big, you often come out on the winning side,” the LLord added.

Tilak Varma Provides Vital Support

Partnering with Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma played a crucial role in the chase, contributing a composed 37 runs off 32 balls. Their unbeaten 143-run stand is now the highest fourth-wicket or lower partnership for MI in IPL history.

Pollard praises Tilak Varma confidence

MI’s batting coach, Kieron Pollard, commended Tilak Varma’s performance, particularly highlighting his confidence at the crease. Pollard expressed his delight at the youngster’s unwavering self-belief every time he steps out to bat.

He’s a talented youngster. Since he entered our Mumbai Indians camp, he has done well for us over the last three seasons,” Pollard said.

“We are delighted with the confidence he exudes every time he walks to the crease. We continue to encourage the talented youngsters to go out and play their game.”

You see, we were under pressure. Tilak came down to bat against Pat Cummins in the fifth over, and it’s in two covers. We applaud his intent and bravery in the dressing room and encourage the guys to push the limits. We continue to push the boundaries. Tilak, he’s a talent. Hopefully, he can continue to be successful and consistent in whatever cricket he plays,” Pollard said.
