After being given a green signal by the NCA Bengaluru to play in the IPL 2024, the Luckow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul is likely to join the team franchise in the next two or three days, as per a report in Cricbuzz. “He will be very much available from the first game of the season,” said a franchise source.
Initially, Rahul, who has been out of action since the first IND vs ENG Test in January, was expected to reach Lucknow by March 20, but will not attend the pre-IPL Captains Conclave in Chennai on March 21. Meanwhile, LSG will only play their first match on March 24, against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
Not just that, Rahul will also be keeping wickets for the team right from the first match, to prove his fitness ahead of the T20 World Cup. “He will be keeping wickets from the first game itself to stake his claim in the India team for the Twenty20 World Cup,” a source added.
Contrasting Reports on KL Rahul’s Wicket-keeping Role
On Sunday, a report in the Indian Express suggested that Rahul has been advised against taking up the wicket-keeper role initially. The report said, that as per a source within the BCCI, “He is fit and can join the IPL franchise in the coming days. He suffered pain in the quadriceps and got an injection too. He went through his rehabilitation and the NCA has now declared him fit. However, he has been advised not to take on the wicket-keeping role immediately.”
