KL Rahul has received the green light for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League, set to kick off on Friday. The skipper of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was granted a fitness certificate by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is expected to join the team within the next two days. LSG will commence their campaign against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Sunday.
While Rahul has been declared fit, the medical team of the BCCI has advised him against taking on the wicket-keeping duties in the early stages of the tournament, urging him to focus solely on batting.
According to a source within the Indian board, “He is fit and can join the IPL franchise in the coming days. He suffered pain in the quadriceps and got an injection too. He went through his rehabilitation and the NCA has now declared him fit. However, he has been advised not to take on the wicket-keeping role immediately.” as quoted by Indian Express
Rahul had experienced discomfort in his right quadriceps following the Hyderabad Test and was subsequently sidelined for the remainder of the recent home series against England.
Initially reported to be at 90 per cent match fitness by the BCCI, Rahul’s progress was closely monitored by the BCCI Medical Team. However, after consulting with a specialist in England, the decision was made for Rahul to seek further expert advice abroad.
