One of the notable surprises from the IPL 2024 Auction was the steal that Gujarat Titans managed to secure with the acquisition of talented Indian seamer Kartik Tyagi. In the bidding process alone, they had to invest ₹60 lakh to bring the Uttar Pradesh speedster on board. Ahead of their inaugural IPL 2024 game against Mumbai Indians, seasoned batsman Kane Williamson appeared to be highly impressed by the young bowler.

“And another young guy Kartik Tyagi. He bowls at high pace and swings it too. So a really exciting talent and player to watch out for.” said Kane Williamson in an interview with News18.

Kartik Tyagi: A player to watch out for

With a scarcity of experienced Indian pacers available and fast bowlers commanding significant financial rewards, Tyagi’s addition to the team was a significant boost. The fast bowler has previously represented Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, making his debut in the competition in 2020 for RR. He gained prominence for his memorable defence of four runs in the final over against Punjab Kings in 2021.

In terms of his IPL statistics, the 23-year-old has taken 15 wickets in 19 matches, albeit with a relatively high economy rate of 9.98. His legendary performance in the IPL 2021 encounter against Punjab Kings for Rajasthan Royals continues to be a topic of admiration.

Tyagi, a member of India’s 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup squad, has participated in 32 T20 matches to date, claiming 25 wickets at an economy rate of 9.19. Additionally, he has garnered 29 wickets in 17 List A matches. Despite having only played a couple of First-Class matches, he has managed to secure three wickets.
