IPL 2024 from March 22, confirmation after general elections date announcement: Report

In 2019, a general elections year, the IPL had taken place from March 23, and got over on May 12 in Hyderabad.

Even though IPL 2024 is highly-anticipated, and all set to begin towards the end of March, the commencement date of the tournament still remains a mystery. But as per a report in Cricbuzz, the 17th edition of the tournament will begin on March 22, just five days after the Women’s Premier League gets over.

The report further suggests that IPL will end on May 26, once again, five days prior to the start of the T20 World Cup 2024. But India plays first match of the tournament only on June 5.

Meanwhile, the IPL dates can only be finalised only after the election dates are announced. In fact, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla had told Insidesport, that no decision on the venue of IPL 2024 had been taken so far. “Discussions are ongoing with the Indian government and the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding whether the IPL will be shifted or not. Confirmation can only be made after these discussions”, Rajeev Shukla said.

Foreign Players’ Availability, No Problem

The BCCI also has assurances from most boards, over the availability of players for the whole tournament. With the T20 World Cup in sight, there might be some early departures for sure, but largely IPL could remain unaffected by it.
