Do you remember Gurunath Meiyappan? The name does ring a bell, isn’t it? For the unversed, Meiyappan was the team principal of the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings and was implicated in a 2013 spot-fixing case. The same year, he was banned from all cricketing activities by the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee.
But for years now, the world seems to have forgotten about him. And now, out of nowhere, it looks like, he is back in the news. As per a report in The Hindu, Meiyappan is now a national racing champion. He emerged as champion in the Indian Touring Car category of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship 2023 at the Madras International Circuit on Sunday.
The report also says that the 48-year-old only needed five points in the fourth round to win the competition. After finishing fourth in Race -1 and third in Race – 2, he won the title with a total of 171 points.
Cut to IPL 2024 Auction & Players CSK Will Eye
Out of the retained players by CSK, batting is one area that looks a little dicey for them. They would love to have a couple of players who could provide stability to them. New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and England’s Harry Brook would certainly be on the team’s radar at the IPL 2024 auction.
