IPL 2024: CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman exempted from donning jersey with liquor brand logo

CSK started their IPL 2024 campaign with a stellar six wicket win over RCB

Mustafizur Rahman’s exceptional performance stole the spotlight in the CSK vs RCB IPL 2024 inaugural clash. Making his IPL debut with the Chennai Super Kings, Rahman’s on-field display wasn’t the sole topic of conversation.

The choice of jersey by Rahman quickly sparked discussions. While the official Chennai Super Kings’ jerseys prominently feature the logo of SJ Alcohol Brands, the team’s corporate sponsor, Rahman’s shirt notably lacked any alcohol branding. He firmly declined to endorse alcoholic products by allowing their names to be displayed on his jersey.

Rahman is not the first player to reject wearing an alcohol brand’s logo on his jersey due to his religious beliefs. Previously, renowned cricketers such as Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, and Rashid Khan have also opted for jerseys devoid of alcohol or other intoxicating product logos, citing their religious convictions.

Rahman showcased his bowling prowess as Chennai’s standout bowler against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He delivered four overs, claiming four wickets while conceding 29 runs. In the opening over, Rahman dismissed Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar. His second over saw the dismissals of India’s premier batsman Virat Kohli and Australian all-rounder Cameron Green.

Gaikwad’s side will play the Gujarat Titans in their second game of the season on Tuesday, March 26 at MA Chidambaram Stadium. This is a rematch of last year’s final, in which MS Dhoni guided Chennai to victory when Ravindra Jadeja struck a boundary off the last ball at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
