IPL 2024: CSK vs RCB season opener records 51% higher viewership compared to 2023

The match, which was MS Dhoni's first without being CSK's skipper, ended up being a rather easy 6-wicket win for Ruturaj Gaikwad in his first match as captain.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is bigger and better this year. The 17th edition of the league opened up with a mouth-watering Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash. Such was the craze for the IPL 2024 season opener that broke last year’s record.

The CSK vs RCB match saw a 51% growth in viewership from last year’s opener between the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. 11.3 crore viewers logged in to watch the opener, with a total of 59 crore views being recorded, which amounted to 660 crore minutes of watch time.

“We resumed where we left last year, and the numbers testify there is no better way to experience the IPL than digital,” a spokesperson for Viacom18 said

“India has completed its transition to being a digital-first sports consuming nation and the opening game record numbers validate this. We are going to see benchmarks reset and records re-written throughout the course of this season,” he further added.
