IPL 2024: Big blow to MI, as recovering Suryakumar Yadav could miss first two matches

IPL 2024: Suryakumar Yadav had last played for India in December 2023, in a T20I against South Africa.

There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding India batsman Suryakumar Yadav‘s injury, and as to when he would be match fit, with the IPL 2024 slated to begin on March 22. Surya, who is currently going under a rehab at NCA, has been missing in action for a few months after an ankle surgery.

With MI set to play their first match on 24th, the question remains, if he will be fit in time to play. Now, as a per a report in PTI, Suryakumar might just miss out on the game vs GT. In fact, he could be missing two matches for Mumbai Indians.

“Surya’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself. However, it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad,” PTI quoted a source as saying.

“There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself,” the source said.

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s Best Batsman in T20s

There’s hardly any doubt that Surya will be India’s most important batsman, when it comes to the T20I World Cup. For that, he will have to certainly come good in the IPL 2024. For now, in 60 T20Is, he has scored 2141 runs, at a strike-rate of over 171.
