The BCCI has developed a novel technique to evaluate waist-high full tosses. The no-ball calls because of waist-high full tosses are frequently the source of disagreement. According to a report, the BCCI is developing the technique in an effort to get decision-making as close to 100% as possible in the IPL 2024.
“There are people in the BCCI’s team who are measuring the height of all the players in the IPL till their waist, with a measuring tape. This data will then be fed into the system used by the hawk-eye operators. They sit with the third umpire (from this season) to judge reviews of waist-high full tosses,” Times of India quoted a source close to the development as saying.
“This data will help in judging the waist-high full toss to a particular batsman better,” the source added.
However, a new Smart Replay System has already been introduced for this IPL season to improve decision-making effectiveness and expedite the procedure. Two Hawk-Eye operators have been positioned next to the TV umpire in this system to provide real-time images for quick analysis.
