Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was roped in by Indian Premier League side Sunrisers Hyderabad for a base price of 1.5 crore in the IPL 2024 Auction on Tuesday. The auction saw a race between X and X to acquire the services of the leg-break bowler.
Hasaranga made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021. After only playing two matches in his debut season, Hasaranga was bought by RCB in the IPL 2022 mega auction for Rs 10.75 crore.

He had a brilliant IPL 2022, taking 26 wickets in 16 matches. His ability to take wickets at crucial junctures made RCB retain him in IPL 2023. However, Hasaranga could not replicate his 2022 form in IPL 2023.
Hasaranga took nine wickets in eight matches for RCB but failed to make them qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023. His release ahead of the IPL 2024 auction might have raised a few eyebrows.
