Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi was sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 8.40 crore after the five-time champions battled stiff competition from Gujarat Titans.
Meanwhile, Shubham Dubey fetched a cool Rs 5.80 crore to become one of the most expensive uncapped India cricketers in the history of Indian Premier League auctions. Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals were aggressive in their bids for Dubey and the Royals eventually snapped him for Rs 5.80 crore after starting from a base price of Rs 20 lakh.
Shubman Dubey, 29, has played only 20 T20 matches and has scored 485 runs at a strike-rate of 145.20.
Dubey made his debut in T20 cricket for Vidarbha back in November 2021 and has since been a consistent performer in the shortest format.
The IPL 2024 Auction saw some weird bids. Earlier in the day, Pat Cummins set auction history with a bid of Rs 20.50 crore from Sunrisers Hyderabad before his Australian teammate Mitchell Starc fetched a jaw-dropping Rs 24.75 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders.
While the international big guns dominated the slots for pacers, India’s uncapped batters had a field day at the IPL 2024 Auction.
Moments after Shubham Dubey stormed to his Rs 5.80 crore bid, Sameer Rizvi, a 20-year-old batter from Uttar Pradesh saw plenty of interest from Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions and Gujarat Titans, the runners-ups in 2023.
Sameer Rizvi has scored 295 runs from the 11 matches he has played for Uttar Pradesh in domestic T20 matches.
