The much-awaited IPL 2024 auction will be held on Tuesday December 19 in Dubai. Several youngsters from the Indian domestic circuit are expected to make a splash in the auction. One of them is Uttar Pradesh’s Sameer Rizvi, who impressed cricket experts with his brilliant domestic performance in 2023.
Meerut born Rizvi scored the fastest hundred in the first edition of UP T20 league. The right-handed batter has an impressive 49.16 average in domestic T20s, while his strike rate is 134.70.
Rizvi could get a big price tag at the auction, according to former cricketers like Aakash Chopra, Abhinava Mukund and Suresh Raina.
Mukund on Monday said on Jio Cinema that an IPL scout mentioned Rizvi was ‘the right handed Suresh Raina’.
“One of the IPL scouts actually told me that he was the right handed Suresh Raina. The areas that he hits against spin are similar and many teams might go after him,” Abhinav Mukund said during the IPL Mock Auction Room.
Former India pacer RP Singh believes that Rizvi would be an ideal addition to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad for the upcoming IPL 2024 as the LPG outfit lacks a consistent finisher.
“Lucknow Super Giants might need someone as a finisher. They do have a lot of top-order batters and the finishers might need to be an Indian. LSG have Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran as their No. 4 and No. 5. They have Deepak Hooda who is not your ideal No. 6 and Ayush Badoni is decent. I was watching the UP T20 League and he’s done well there and can hit big sixes,” Chopra explained.
Suresh Raina, who Rizvi has been likened with by Abhinav Mukund, heaped praises on the youngster too.
“Sameer Rizvi has a different intent in his batting. He would get a lot of confidence if he gets to play for an UP team. He is a Badoni-type player but plays with a straighter bat,” Raina said.
