Gautam Gambhir arrived at the IPL 2024 Auction venue and rejoined his old team Kolkata Knight Riders at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai.
Gautam Gambhir had won two IPL trophies with KKR in 2012 and 2014 and is well respected and loved in Kolkata. After retiring from international cricket, Gambhir was associated with Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor.
However, days ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction, Gautam Gambhir was signed up by KKR as a mentor. The Knight Riders haven’t had the best time in the Indian Premier League in recent years and that they have a lot of work to do at the auction table on Tuesday.
Kolkata Knight Riders have as many as 13 slots left to fill out of 77 slots available for all the teams. KKR have Rs 32.70 crore left in their purse.
Earlier this year, Gautam Gambhir was embroiled in a controversy when he got into a verbal argument with Virat Kohli after a game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Gambhir back then had said he wasn’t happy that someone had targeted one of his players and he felt it was only right for him to stand up for his team.
Gautam Gambhir’s re-integration into the KKR set-up could be a major coup for a team which will also be relieved with the return of Shreyas Iyer as captain. Last year, Iyer could not play the IPL because of an injury and Nitish Rana stood in for him.
