IPL 2024 Auction: Gerald Coetzee bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 5 cr

IPL 2024 Auction: Gerald Coetzee was associated with Rajasthan Royals in 2021, but did not get a game.

The IPL 2024 Auction started with a bang as Rovman Powell was bagged for 7.4 cr by the Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, in Dubai. And that very first bid set the tone for the rest of the auction as a few more players fetched amounts over a crore. South Africa all-rounder Gerald Coetzee, who came into the limelight for his exceptional performance at the World Cup, was bagged by Mumbai Indians for INR 5 cr.

In an interview with Revsportz, he had said that he was looking forward to be with CSK, but didn’t mind being with any team. “I have really enjoyed playing under Flem (Stephen Fleming) and Eric (Eric Simmons) and the Super Kings family is really special. They are such a powerful and awesome franchise, who gave me a shot in the SA20 as well as MLC.

“But I also understand the nature of the auction that you can end up playing for any team, and you have to be open to that. If I end up playing under MS Dhoni, then it would be a massive opportunity for me to learn and to experience one of the greatest captains of all time.

“However, as I mentioned, anything can happen. Hopefully, I’m granted the opportunity to play in the IPL wherever it may be,” Coetzee said ahead of IPL 2024 Auction.
