IPL 2024 Auction: After buying 'No 1 Priority' Harry Brook for a bargain of Rs 4 crore, Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting was overjoyed.

Former Australia captain and Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting, disclosed that bringing in England batter Harry Brook was their top priority during the IPL 2024 Auction at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Ponting expressed satisfaction, noting that they successfully addressed all the team’s gaps.

Delhi Capitals had a noteworthy auction, acquiring nine players after releasing 10 ahead of the retention deadline. The Delhi-based side will now aim for a stronger performance after finishing second from the bottom in the points table during the previous season with even Rishab Pant nearing full fitness.

“Brook was our number 1 priority today and we got him for a whole lot cheaper than we expected to” said, DC coach Ricky Ponting.

Ricky Ponting conveyed his excitement about working with Harry Brook, hailing him as one of the most talented international cricketers globally. Delhi Capitals secured Brook for Rs 4 crore during the Dubai auction. The upcoming 2024 season will mark Brook’s second stint in the IPL; he previously scored 190 runs for SunRisers Hyderabad in the last season after they invested Rs 13.50 crore in him.

“I was excited about Harry Brook. I think he is one of the most talented international cricketers in the world at the moment. So, I’m really excited to work with him,” Ponting added.

In a video released by DC post-auction, Ponting stated that they successfully addressed all the team’s requirements, achieving 90% of their targeted goals. The additions to the squad include Kumar Kushagra (Rs 7.20 crore), Jhye Richardson (Rs 5 crore), Shai Hope (Rs 75 lakh), Tristan Stubbs (Rs 50 lakh), Ricky Bhui (Rs 20 lakh), Rasik Dhar (Rs 20 lakh), Sumit Kumar (Rs 1 crore), and Swastik Chikara (Rs 20 lakh).

“We filled all the gaps that we wanted and saved nearly 10 crore, so the owners are really happy about it. We probably got 90 per cent of exactly what we wanted. We’ve done a great job,” said Ponting.
